This is the most comfortable option, since the new channels will be added at the end without messing up the old ones. However, if we retune all the channels from scratch, they will become out of order. To order them comfortably, we can export the list of channels to a file and edit them on the computer with programs to order channels like ChanSort.

In a short statement, Boxer said they had handed back the contract because the venture was "no longer viable" because the "changed" economic environment meant a crucial contract with RTE's networks division could not be agreed. The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland yesterday said it had offered the contract to the One Vision consortium, which came second in the original contest. If neither party wants to take it up under the terms proposed, a new tender could then be run.

A spokeswoman for TV3 said the broadcaster would not comment until the consortium had the opportunity to look at the feasibility of launching a commercial DTT service. DTT will replace the analogue television signal from the end of , obliging households who rely on the signal for their television channels to upgrade to DTT using a set-top box and smart cards.

This public service multiplex will eventually transmit up to eight channels. Why, having withstood the onslaught of digital cable and satellite marketeers, would four- channel land bother to pay more?
